Guns do not commit violence – any more than knives, or cars. People commit acts of violence. The primary underlying causes of increases in violence – of all kinds – are mental health and Leftist rhetoric that justifies it, celebrates it, and sympathizes with the stories of the assailants.
The following bill passed the House and must be opposed vigorously tin the Senate:
HB1593 – Gun registry & Universal Background Checks
- An Act amending Title 18 (Crimes and Offenses) in firearms and other dangerous articles, repealing provisions relating to sale or transfer of firearms.
- Current text of the bill
- Talking points:
- Significantly expands background checks on the person-to-person transfer of firearms
- Creates a gun registry which essentially creates a framework for potential confiscation, undermining the purpose of the right to bear arms.
- Privacy Violation: Tracking gun ownership exposes personal information to government overreach or data breaches.
- Ineffective Against Crime: Criminals do not register their guns, so registries only burden law-abiding citizens without reducing crime.
- Historical Precedent: Registries have been used in other countries to facilitate gun confiscation, raising distrust in government motives.
- Administrative Burden: Maintaining a registry is costly and diverts resources from more effective crime prevention measures.
- AI Analysis (Due to possible “hallucinations”, scrutiny advised)
This information is summarized here by Representative Stephanie Borowicz, who sits on the Judiciary committee.
